the velocity of the ball 1 is v1= 3m/s

and the velocity of the ball v2= 4m/s

now two balls are going opposite direction

Therefore at time t the velocity of ball 1is

v1= 3i+gtj      v2= -4i+gtj

Now as said if the angle between them is 90 degree

Then, v1.v2= 0

       or, -12+gt^2= 0 [ g= 10 m/s]

      or t = √12/g

              =  0.35 s

V= v1- v2

 therefore the distance between them at time 0.35s

V x t

= 7m/s x 0.35

= 2.45m
