Two batteries having emfs of 110V & 100V and internal resistances of 0.2 Ω and 0.35 Ω

respectively are connected in parallel across a load of resistance 5 Ω. Calculate the current supplied

by each battery and the current through and voltage across the load.

Solution:

Let VL represent the unknown load voltage.

From KCL:

We have,

\frac{(13-VL)}{2} + \frac{(12-VL)}{1} = \frac{VL}{10}

Multiplying 10 on both sides,

5(13-VL) + 10(12-VL) = VL

Expanding the terms we get,

65 -5VL + 120 - 10VL = VL

(65 + 120) + (-5VL - 10VL) = VL

185 - 15VL = VL

185 = 16VL

Solving VL;

VL = \frac{185}{16}

VL = 11.56
