Answer:

5m/s is the required answer .

Explanation:

According to the Question

Given:-

  • Mass (m₁) = 3kg
  • Mass (m₁) = 2kg
  • Initial velocity, (u₁) = 15m/s
  • Initial velocity ,(u₂) = -10m/s (opposite in direction)

To Find:-

Combined velocity

Solution :

Let the combined velocity of the sphere be v m/s.

Combined mass of the body after collision = m₁ + m₁

Combined mass of the body after collision = 3+2=5kg

Using conservation of momentum

m₁u₁+m₂u₂ = m₁v₁+m₂v₂

Since after the collision the mass of sphere combined and also the velocity . So modified formula will be

➻ m₁u₁ + m₂u₂ = mv

Substitute the value we get

➻ 3×15 + 2×(-10) = 5 ×v

➻ 45 + (-20) = 5×v

➻ 45 -20 = 5×v

➻ 25 = 5×v

➻ 25/5 = v

➻ 5 = v

➻ v = 5m/s

  • Hence, the combined velocity of the sphere will be 5m/s.
