From the free body diagram or FBD of the given system we get,
3mg - T = 3ma ---------(1)
T - 2mg = 2ma ---------(2)
Adding (1) and (2),
3mg - T + T - 2mg = 3ma + 2ma
mg = 5ma
a = mg/5m
a = g/5
Therefore, acceleration of the masses is g/5
