Two blocks of masses 4 kg and 2 kg are attached
by an inextensible light string as shown in figure. Both the blocks
are pulled vertically upwards by a force F = 120 N. Find
(a) the acceleration of the blocks,
(b) tension in the string. (Take g = 10 m/s").

Answer:

40N

Let acceleration of assembly be a upward and tension in rope be T,

F−4g−2g=6a

120−6×10=6a

6a=60

a=10m/s

2

Considering motion of 2kgblock,

T−2g=2a

T=2×10+2×10

T=40N
