Two boats approach a light house in mid-sea from opposite directions.The Angles of elevation of the top of the light house from two boats are 60 and 45 respectively.If the distance between the two boats is 100m,find the height of hte light house.

Divide the length of each ship from the lighthouse as x and (100-x).


tan 60=AD/x
AD=x√3

tan 45=AD/(100-x)
AD=100-x

Equating,
AD=AD

x√3=100-x
x√3+x=100
x(√3+1)=100
x=100/(√3+1)
x=100/(1.73+1)
x=100/2.73

x=36.63m
