Two bodies of masses 10 kg and 1000 kg are at a distance 1 m apart. At which point on the line joining them will the gravitational field-intensity be zero ?

M1 = 10kg, M2 = 1000kg.

according to question,

Gm1/x square = Gm2(x-1) whole square.

10/x square = 1000(x-1) whole square.

1/x square = 100(x-1) whole square.

1/x = 10(1-x).

1-x = 10x

1 = 11x .

x = 1/11 metre.

hence, distance from M1 will be 1/11 metre

and

distance from M2 will be 10/11 metre.
