Two bodies of masses 2kg and 3Kg have kinetic energies 16J and 24J respecitvely when they are moving in the same direction. They collide each other The total momentum after collision is

For first body, using kinetic energy formula-

 \frac{1}{2} 2 \:  {v}^{2}  = 16

v = 4m/s

Now, for second body,

 \frac{1}{2} 3 {v}^{2}  = 24

 {v}^{2}  =  \frac{24 \times 2}{3}

v = 4m/s

Now, momentum before collision = momentum after collision,

So, momentum before collision is m1v1 + m2v2

= (2)(4) + (3)(4)

= 8 + 12

= 20 kgm/s
