If two bodies of masses m1 and m2 (m1 is greater than m2) have equal kinetic energy, which will have more momentum? Since the formula of kinetic energy is mv^2 /2 and the body with lower mass has equal energy, it is obvious that m2's velocity is higher.

Answer:

m1 will have more momentum

Explanation:

Consider an arbitrary example, let us take

m1=10 kg ; v1 = 5m/s

m2=5 kg ; v2= has to be calculated to satisfy the condition of equal energies

Since its a equal energies

0.5x10x5^2=0.5x5x(v2)^2

v2=7.07 m/s

momentum is given by m x v

momentum 1 = m1 x v1 =10 x 5 = 50 kg.m/s

momentum 2 = m2 x v2 = 5 x 7.07 = 35.35 kg.m/s.

Hence from above we can say momentum 1 > momentum 2.

You can try with any arbitrary numbers with conditions met you will get the same result
