To Find : Which of them has a greater total surface area?

(A) Chemistry Book

(B) Biology Book

Solution:

From Volume we can not find surface area of  cuboid

For example

Biology book has a volume of 800 cm³ has sides 10 x 10 x 8 cm

Then surface area = 2( 100 + 80 + 80)

= 520 cm²

If Chemistry book has a volume of 600 cm³ has sides 20 x 15 x 2 cm

Then surface area = 2( 300 + 40 + 30)

= 740 cm²

Chemistry book has greater surface area

If Chemistry book has a volume of 600 cm³ has sides 10 x 10 x 6  cm

Then surface area = 2( 100 + 60 + 60)

= 440 cm²

Biology  book has greater surface area

Hence depending upon dimensions Surface area of any book can be greater or lesser.
