Answer:

The milk and water in two vessels A and B are in ratio of 4:3 and 2:3 respectively. In what ratio should the liquids in both vessels be mixed to obtain a new mixture in vessel C consisting of half milk and half water?

Vessel A : milk is 4/7. & water is 3/7

Vessel B : milk is 2/5 ,& water is 3/5

Then I poured x litre from vessel A & poured y litre from vessel B into a new vessel C. & supposed that by doing so, milk & water quantity becomes equal

I shall find now, in vessel C liquid, how much milk & how much water.

X lit poured from vessel A contains 4x/7 milk

Y litre poured from B contains 2y/5 milk

So, total quantity of milk= (4x/7) + (2y/5)…. (1)

Similarly,

X litre poured from vessel A contains 3x/7 water

Y lit poured from vessel B contains 3y/5 water

So, total quantity of water =(3x/7) +(3y/5) ...(2)

Ratio of (1) & (2) is 1:1 ie they are equal

=> 4x/7 + 2y/5 = 3x/7 + 3y/5

=> 4x/7 - 3x/7 = 3y/5 - 2y/5

=> x/7 = y/5

=> x/y = 7/5

ie, ratio of liquid from vessel A to that of vessel B = 7 : 5
