let the force exerted by boy 1 be positive
hence force exerted by boy 2 will be negative
net force= 40-60
=-20 N
hence 20 N force will be exerted and object will move in direction where boy 2 is pushing the object

Answer:

20N acting in the direction of larger force.

Explanation:

let force F1 be 40N , and let force F2 be 60N. The forces are opposing each other. Hence, larger force is 60N so 60N-40N= 20N

Resultant force is a force of 20 N acting in the direction of the larger force.
