Given

  • Masses = 2 kg & 5 kg
  • Force of attraction = 10 N
  • Distance between their centers is being doubled

To Find

  • The Force of attraction

Solution

GMm/r² = Gravitational Force

  • The above formula is used to find the Gravitational Force between two bodies of masses M & m

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

According to the Question :

➞ g = GMm/r² = 10 N -eq(1)

And,

➞ g' = GMm/(2r)²

➞ g' = GMm/4r² -eq(2)

From eq(1) & eq(2)

➞ N = 10/4

➞ N = 5/2 N

∴ The gravitational force would be 5/2 N

Answer:

Given :-

two brass balls of masses 2kg and 5kg experiments a force of attraction of 10N when the distance between their centers is doubled

To Find :-

force of attraction

Solution :-

Let the radius be r

When radius will be doubled = 2 × r = 2r

We know that

g = GMm/r²

g = 10 N

Now

g' = GMm/(2r)²

g' = GMm/4r²

On comparing

GMm/r² = GMm/4r²

Cancelling GMm

r² = 4r²

10 = 4

Now

Force of attraction = 10/4

Force of attraction = 5/2 or 2.5 N
