Given :- Two brothers want to buy a scooter. The first brother needs $73 more before he can afford the scooter and the second has $65 less than the price of the scooter. Together they have exactly the amount of money needed for one scooter. What is the cost of two scooters ?
Solution :-
Let us assume that, cost of a scooter is $x .
given that, The first brother needs $73 more before he can afford the scooter .
so,
→ Total money first brother have = $(x - 73) .
also, given, the second has $65 less than the price of the scooter.
so,
→ Total money second brother have = $(x - 65)
therefore,
→ Together money = cost of scooter .
→ (x - 73) + (x - 65) = x
→ x + x - 73 - 65 = x
→ 2x - 138 = x
→ 2x - x = 138
→ x = $138 .
hence,
→ The cost of two scooters = 138 * 2 = $276 . (Ans.)
