Answer:

30km

Step-by-step explanation:

40km in 1 hr : 20 min distance= 40 kmx20/60=13.33km@20min.

50km in 1 hr : 20 min distance=50 kmx20/60=16.67km@20min

Add the two distance i.e. 13.33+16.67=30km

Given : Speed of first bus = 40kmph

Speed of second bus = 50kmph

To find : Distance covered by both the buses in 20mins = ?

Please note : This is not formula based , This is concept based explanation as I have solved it

The speed is 40kmph that means it will cover 40 kilometers in one hour to be specific

Similarly for the speed of second bus too...

In an hour the first bus will cover 40kms

So in twenty mins, it will cover = 40 × 20/60

= 13.33.. ~ 13kms

In an hour the second bus will cover 50kms

So in twenty mins, it will cover = 50×20/60

=16.66.. ~16.7kms

Therefore, the first bus will cover 13kms and second bus will cover 16.7kms in 20mins respectively. Also,

the distance between them will be 16.7+13.3=30kms.
