Two buses, A and B are moving with a velocity of 40m/s towards east and 20m/s towards the west respectively. If both buses started from the same place and the same time, calculate the distance between them after 3 min?

Answer:

They are moving in opposite directions so their relative velocity will be = 40+20 = 60m/s.

As you have seen in your daily life , the vehicle moving in opposite direction seems to be moving faster than vehicle moving in the direction of your motion.

So now according to this law one vehicle is supposed to be at rest and other one moving with the velocity 60m/s.

So the distance traveled in 5 min(5×60sec) would be s = vt

Here

S : distance

v : velocity

t : time

s = 60×5×60 = 18000m = 18km.

So the buses are 18km apart.
