let the total valid votes be ' x '

winning candidate secured votes=52 %

then loosing candidate secured votes

=100 - 52 = 48%

according to question ,

52% of x - 48% of x = 354

4% of x = 354

4 /100 × x = 354

4x = 35400

x = 35400/4

x = 8850 votes

since, 68 votes declared invalid.

therefore, total number of votes polled

= valid votes + invalid votes

=8850 + 68 = 8918votes
