Let the votes won by defeated candidate be x
Given margin = 46784 votes
=> He losed by 46784 votes
Since the winning candidate won 46784 votes
=> x + 46784 = 270688
=> x = 270688 - 46784
= 223904 votes.
Therefore,
the losing candidate won 223904 votes
& the winning candidate won 270688 votes
also, 8235 votes were declared invalid.
Therefore, total number of votes polled
= 223904 + 270688 + 8235
= 502827 votes
Therefore, 502827 votes were polled in total.
