Let the total no. of votes be y.

Percentage of votes one candidate got = 54%
No. of votes he got = 54/100 x y
= 54y/100
No. of votes other candidate got = 46y/100

ATQ, 54y/100 - 46y/100 = 1080
=> 8y/100 = 1080
=> y = 1080 x 100/8
=> y = 1350

So, the total no. of votes are 1,350.
