let the total no. of votes be x
65% of x - 35% of x = 600
30% of x = 600
30 × x/100 =600
x =600 × 100/30
x = 2000

Total number of votes polled is 2000

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the total no. of votes be x

Two candidates fought in an election .

One of them got 65%

No. of votes of winner =65\%x=0.65x

So, Other got = 100%-65% = 35% = 0.35x

Winner wins by 600 votes

So,0.65x-0.35x=600

0.30x=600

x=\frac{600}{0.3}=2000

Hence Total number of votes polled is 2000
