Step-by-step explanation:

Even though in reality it would be different (1,000 carpenters will not build a wooden cabinet 1,000 times faster than one single carpenter), if we assume that it does work like that, we can solve the problem like so.

Let t=time in days per carpenter to build the cabinet, c=number of carpenters and d=number of days required to build the cabinet

Our starting equation is

t divided by c=d

If we sub in c=6 (as there are six carpenters) and d=18 (as it takes 18 days), we get

t divided by 6=18

t=18x6

t=108

To find out the number of carpenters we will need we can sub in our known value for t and our needed value for d to get the equation

t divided by c=d

108 divided by c=6

108=6c

c=108 divided by six

c=18

Therefore you will need 18 carpenters (assuming the ratio between the number of carpenters and days required to make a cabinet scales linearly) to finish a wooden cabinet in 6 days.

I hope I helped! If there’s anything that you find confusing and want cleared up, just leave a reply and I’ll explain it the best I can. :)

2 carpenters can make a cupboard in 5 days

1 carpenters can make a cupboard in 5/2 days

6 carpenters can make a cupboard in 5/2 × 6 days = 15 days
