Two cars a and b are running at velocities of 60km/h and 45km/h respectively, with a ahead of
b. calculate the relative velocity of car a if: i) they are both travelling eastwards and ii) car a is travelling eastwards and car b is travelling westwards. what would be the effect on the magnitude of relative velocity if b is ahead of a?

Given that ....
Velocity of car a=Va =60kmph
Velocity of car b =Vb=45kmph
________________-------------_____
Velocity of car a relative to b
=Vab = Va - Vb.
------------------------
i) when both cars are moving in same direction..
Vab= 60 - 45
Vab = 15kmph
_________------------_________
ii) when both the cars are moving in opposite
direction,,,,,,
Let velocity in east direction is positive.
so Va=60kmph
and Vb=45kmph
So Vab = Va - Vb
= 60 -(-45)
= 105kmph
Velocity of car a=Va =60kmph
Velocity of car b =Vb=45kmph
