Answer:

It will take 9 hours.

Given:

Car A:

speed = 30km/hr

starts 6 hrs ahead of the Car B.

Car B:

Speed = 50 km/hr

To find:

How long will it take the second car to catch up the with the first one

Step-by-step Explanation:

First calculate the distance traveled by Car A in 6 hours,

speed = distance/ time

distance = speed × time

distance = 30 × 6 = 180

so, the distance traveled by Car A in 6 hours is 180 km.

Now,

let us consider the Car B takes x hours to catch up with car B.

So, distance distance traveled by Car B in x hours will be,

distance = speed × time

distance = 50 × x = 50x

Also,

distance distance traveled by Car B in x hours will be,

distance = speed × time

distance = 30 × x = 30x

As Car A starts 6 hrs ahead of the Car B.

So, traveled by car A in (6 + x) will be,

⇒ distance traveled in 6 hours + distance in x hours

⇒ 180 + 30x

Now, distance traveled by both car,

⇒ 180 + 30x = 50x

⇒ 180 = 50x - 30x

⇒ 180 = 20x

⇒ 180/20 = x

⇒ 9 = x

Therefore, Car B will it take 9 hours to catch up the with the first one.
