Two cars start from the same point and move towards a destination that is 250km apart. They move with the speed of 60kmph and 40kmph. At certain point of time during the race, both the cars interchange their speed such that the second car reach the destination 1 hour earlier than the first car. What is the time in secs at which they interchange their speeds?

Answer: The time in seconds at which they interchange their speeds

    is 4680 seconds

Step-by-step explanation:

Total Distance =250 km

Let the total time taken by 2nd car= x and by 1st car= x+1

Let the time of interchange = t

Distance travelled by both the cars before interchange=

1st car= 60t km

2nd car= 40t km

Distance travelled after speed interchange

1st car = 40{(x+1)-t}km

2nd car= 60(x-t)km

distance travelled by both the cars =250km(given)

1st car= 60t+40(x+1-t)=250     ( --------equation 1)

2nd car=40t+60(x-t)=250        (-------equation2)

Adding equation 1&2

100x+40=500

x=46/10    (------equation3)

Putting the value of x from equation3 into equation2

t=26/20

converting t into seconds

t= 26/20 * 60*60

t=4680 seconds
