two cells of emf 1.5 v and 2 v and internal resistance of 1 ohm and 2 ohm respectively are connected in parallel to pass a current in the same direction through an external resistance of 5 ohm using kirchoffs laws calaculate the current through each branch of the circuit and potential difference across 5 ohm resistor

Points to remembered in KVL(Kirchoff's Voltage law

  • Energy is utilized in moving 1 point to another in a wire /circuit just as our energy is utilized 8n moving 1 point to another. This work done is linked to Voltageas qV=W for a pat in a wire ,but we are given I not q or time taken.
  • In moving between 2 points where which Potential difference is to be calculated, first write V of initial point ,move in any direction,to finally reach desired point,,the shortest way is preferred to go to minimise calculation.
  • If moving in direction of I for that part,I is taken +.if moving opp to dir of I I taken-.
  • If a resistor occurs write after VA(say A,B be initial and final points respectively) write as sum product of R and I with sign according to direction.
  • If Cell occurs, write potential of the cell/equivalent potential in case of combination with +/-sign as final(on moving in dir of I) terminal of cell is positive or negative.
  • If point having a V is given write voltage of point as a sum in equation.
  • Now, following this if circuit is closed, and only wire is in between end point after these process and desired point, equal the summation you have written with VB.Thats what is done in last.
