Two channels one with a bit rate of 190Kbps and another with a bit rate of 180 Kbps are to be multiplexed with Pulse-Stuffing TDM with no synchronization bits. Answer the following questions. i) Calculate size of Frames in bits. ii) Calculate the Frame rate. iii) Calculate the duration of Frame.

Therefore, there is a requirement of adding an extra bits to the second source to make both rates equal to 190 kbps.

With two sources of 190 kbps

i) The frame size will be 1 + 1 = 2 bits as the frame carries 1 bit from each source.

ii) The frame rate will be 190,000 frames as each frame carries 1 bit from each 190 kbps source.

iii) The duration of the frame will be equal to 5.3 µ s (1/ (frame rate) = 1/ 190000)

iv) The output data rate will be equal to (190000 frames/s) x (2 bits/frame) equal to 380 kbps.  The output bit rate is more than the sum of the input rate 370 kbps because of the extra bits which were added to the second source.
