We have to calculate force between two charges of 16μC and 4μC are placed 0.4 m apart in air.

solution : magnitude of first charge, Q₁ = 16μC = 16 × 10¯⁶ m

magnitude of 2nd charge, Q₂ = 4μC = 4 × 10¯⁶ m

distance between them, r = 0.4 m

now using Coulomb's electric force formula, F = KQ₁Q₂/r²

= (9 × 10^9 Nm²/C² × 16 × 10¯⁶ × 4 × 10¯⁶)/(0.4)²

= (36 × 10¯³ × 16)/(16 × 10¯²)

= 36 × 10¯¹ N

= 3.6 N

Therefore the force between the charges is 3.6 N.
