Two charges of magnitudes -2Q and + Q are located at points (a,0) and (4a,0)
respectively. What is the electric flux due to these charges through a sphere of radius
’3a’ with its center at the origin?

Answer:

If we draw a sphere of radius 3a with centre at origin, only -2Q placed at (a, 0) will be in the sphere and charge Q at (4a,0) will be out of the sphere

According to Gauss Law,

electric flux (Φ) = Qenclosed/εo

Q enclosed = - 2Q

Therefore, flux through the sphere is

Φ = -2Q/εo
