The neutral point at distance 8 cm from 4Q charge.

Explanation:

Given that,

First charge = Q

Second charge = 4Q

Distance = 12 cm

Let the neutral point at distance x from 4Q charge.

At this point the electric field due to both charges will be same

We need to calculate the distance

Using formula of electric field

\dfrac{1}{4\pi\epsilon_{0}}\times\dfrac{Q_{2}}{x^2}=\dfrac{1}{4\pi\epsilon_{0}}\times\dfrac{Q_{1}}{(d-x)^2}

Put the value into the formula

\dfrac{1}{4\pi\epsilon_{0}}\times\dfrac{4Q}{x^2}=\dfrac{1}{4\pi\epsilon_{0}}\times\dfrac{Q}{(12-x)^2}

\dfrac{4}{x^2}=\dfrac{1}{(12-x)^2}

24-2x=x

3x=24

x=8\ cm

Hence, The neutral point at distance 8 cm from 4Q charge.
