The two chief characteristics of Russian society before 1917 Revolution were :

1. The society was divided into two classes Rich and Poor. The nobles, feudal lords etc constitute the Rich class while as peasants and labors were Poor class. The condition of poor class was desperate and pathetic.

2. The Society was staunchly patriarchal and women were denied right to vote and holding of public offices.
