In the first situation the string hang loose but in the other situation the string is pulled tight as shown in figure. Write the observations of the listener in both the situations. What conclusion can you draw on the basis of the observations?

• In case of loose string, the direction of vibrations will not be certain and will loose intensity. Thus, they will not be heard.

• In case of pulled string, the vibrations will move through the string to a specified path, which is near the ear of listener. Hence, the voice will be heard.
