Given:
The dimensions of the rectangular aluminium sheet-
length = 12 m
breadth = 5 m
To find:
The ratio of the curved surface areas of the cylinders
Solution:
Let "C.S.A.₁" & "C.S.A.₂" be the curved surface areas of the two cylinders.
Finding C.S.A. of the cylinder made by rolling along the length of the rectangular sheet
Here
Height of the cylinder = 12 m
Circumference = 5 m
∴ C.S.A.₁ = 2πrh = (Circumference) × (height) = 5 × 12 = 60 m²
Finding C.S.A. of the cylinder made by rolling along the width of the rectangular sheet
Here
Height of the cylinder = 5 m
Circumference of the base= 12 m
∴ C.S.A.₂ = 2πrh = (Circumference) × (height) = 12 × 5 = 60 m²
Finding the ratio of their curved surface areas
∴ The ratio of their area are,
=
=
= 1 : 1
Thus, the ratio of the curved surface areas of the cylinders are 1:1.
