(ii) When they are going in the opposite direction:
Time taken for the cars to meet = 2 hours.
Relative speed = x + y km/hr
∴ Time = 80/(x + y) = 2
⇒ x + y = 40
On solving (i) & (ii), we get
⇒ x - y = 20
⇒ x + y = 40

x = 30
Substitute x = 30 in (i), we get
⇒ x - y = 20
⇒ 30 - y = 20
⇒ y = 10.
Therefore:
Speeds of the cars are 30 km/hr and 10 km/hr.
