Two cliffs of height 120 m and 100,4 m are separated by a horizontal distance of 16 m. If a car has toreach from the first cliff to the second, the horizontal velocity of the car should be
a) 16 ms^-1
b) 4 ms^-1
c) 2 ms^-1

Answer:

d)8m^-1

Explanation:

divide the velocity of the car into components

so the velocity in downward direction at the end of the cliff is

v0=0m/s

at 1 sec

the position of the body is (as acceleration due to gravity is 9.8m/s)

9.8m

at 2 sec

the position of the body is

19.6m

if we find out the difference between the heights it is 120-100.4= 19.6m

therefore it will take exactly 2 sec

let the velocity in horizontal direction be vx

distance = 16m

time = 2 sec

therefore vx= d/t

vx=16/2

vx=8m/s
