Let Resistance of the materials be R

In parallel combination

1/Req = 1/R +1/R

Therefore, Req= R/2 ohm

Hence Heat produced= I²Rt where I and t are current and time respectively

= I²R/2*t Joules

In series combination,

Req= R+R= 2R ohm

Therefore Heat produced= I²2R*t Joules

Ratio of heat produced in series to parallel = I²2R*t/ I²R/2*t

                                                                        = 4:1
