When the two cubes are fixed together, the resulting solid is a cuboid.

Length of the cuboid, = 2 × edge of the cube = 2*2= 4cm

Breadth of the cube = 1 × edge of the cube = 2 cm

Height of the cube = 1 × edge of the cube = 2 cm

Total surface area of the cuboid = 2*(LB + BL + LH)

⇒ 2*(4*2 + 2*2 + 2*4)

⇒ 2*(8 + 4 + 8)

⇒ 2*20

⇒ 40 sq cm

So, the total surface area of the cuboid is 40 sq cm
