Two cyclists, each with the same total mass of 50 kg, ride up the same hill. The hill is 55 m high. Cyclist A takes 5 mins to reach the top, while Cyclist B takes 3 minutes more. Compare their powers

Explanation:

Formula for Power is,

Power = Work done / time taken

and, Work done = Mass * Height * Acceleration due to gravity (9.8 m/s^2)

Therefore, Both the cyclists are having same work done = 50 * 55 * 9.8

                                                                                              = 26950 joules

and, Power of 1st cyclist is = 26950/5 = 5390 watts

       Power of 2nd cyclist is = 26959/3 = 8983.3 watts

Hence , it is now clear from these equations that , 2nd cyclist has greater power than the 1st one .
