Two cylinders of diameters 100 mm and 50 mm, weighing
200 N and 50 N, respectively are placed in a trough as
shown in Fig. 3.52. Neglecting friction, find the reactions
at contact surfaces 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Answer:

Diameter of two cylinder 100mm and 50 mm

Radius is 50mm and 25 mm respectively

then BO2= 120-(25+50)

BO 2 = 45 mm

t hen sin ∅ = 45/75= 3/5

sum fx = 0

R1 = R2 sin ∅

R1= 3/5R2

sum fy = 0

R2 cos ∅= 50 N

R2 = 62.5N

R1 = 37.5N

R4 cos 45° = 200+ R2 cos ∅

= 250/cos ∅

R4 = 353.5N

sum of fx = 0

R2 sin∅ + R4 sin 45°= R3

R3 = 287.5 N
