Two dice are thrown simultaneously. Find the probability of
a) getting sum less than 6.
b) getting a doublet like (1, 1) (2, 2), (3, 3).​

a) A = sum less than 6

A = (1,1),(1,2),(1,3),(1,4),(2,1),(2,3),(3,1),(3,2),(4,1)

n(A) = 9

n(s) = 36

p(A) = n(A) / n(s)

= 9/36

= 1/4.

b) B = doublet

B = (1,1),(2,2),(3,3),(4,4),(5,5),(6,6)

n(B) = 6.

P(B) = n(B) / n(s)

= 6/ 36

= 1/6
