Bakelite is actually the first synthetic thermosetting plastic which means itis resistant to heat and also non-conductive to electricity, whereasplastic is not heat resistant nor non-conductive to electricity.

Polythene is thermosetting polymer
Bakelite is a thermosetting polymer.
This means that Bakelite can't be moulded again and again for use while polythene can be moulded again and again for use.
