When a layer of top soil is eroded by wind or fast following water... it is known as Sheet erosion.
If sheet erosion continues it develops into rill erosion (Stage 2)
If it further continues then it forms hollows in the Ground or Gullies.... which is the 3rd stage of sheet erosion.
