Step-by-step explanation:
Given Two different solutions of honey, milk and water are mixed with each other three times in varying proportions The concentration of honey and milk in the three resulting solutions are found to be
(10%, 16%), (12%, 12%) and (16%, x%) respectively.What is the value of x?
- Let the percentage of honey and milk in two solutions be (m%,n%) and (o%, p%)
- According to the question we get
- (m – 10) / (10 – n) = (n – 16) / (16 – p)
- So 16 m – 160 – mp + 10p = 10n – no – 160 + 16o
- Mp – no = 16 m – 10 n – 16 o + 10 p ---------1
- Similarly for the second and third proportion we get
- So mp – no = 12 m – 12 n – 12 o + 12p--------2
- Also mp – no = xm – 16 n – x o + 16 p---------3
- From equation 1 and 2 we get
- (m – o) / (p – n) = 1/2
- From equation 2 and 3 we get
- (m – o) / (p – n) = 4 / 12 - x
- So we have 4 / 12 – x = 1/2
- So 12 – x = 8
- Or – x = 8 – 12
- Or x = 4
