Answer:

weak acid & strong base

Explanation:

Reaction of strong base and weak acid gives basic salt in aqueous solution.

The basic salt in aqueous form will turn phenolphthalein solution pink.

Thus the reaction is between strong base and weak acid.

Two drops of phenolphthalein indicator is added to the salt solution formed on reacting with an acid and base. Then the solution turnedinto pink. The strength of acid and base are that the base is strong and acid is weak due to the following reason:

- the nature of phenolphthalein is that it is a weak acid.

- Phenolphthalein dissociates into ions in the aqueous solution.

- Phenolphthalein is a synthetic indicator which changes its colour to pink in basic medium and remains colourless in neutral and acidic medium.

- When strong base and weak acid react with each other than a basic salt is formed.

- In the aqueous form basic salt turns phenolphthalein solution into pink colour.
