Two Dry Cobalt Chloride paper, one tied on the surface of a leaf and one tied below the surface of the leaf. Which one of them shows faster color change?

1 The one which tied below the surface of the leaf shows faster color change
2 The one which is tied above the surface of the leaf shows faster color change
3 Both the paper shows medium color change

Answer: Correct option is 3

Paper is moistened by the transpiring water.

There is a change in the colour of cobalt chloride paper clipped on the lower surfaces of the leaf  indicates loss of water vapour from this surface through transpiration. Cobalt chloride paper is pink when moist and blue when dry. The rate of loss of water is, however, more on the lower side than the upper side.
