The two methods of drying pulses are – 1. Sun drying method and 2. Mechanically heated air dryers which come in two types- batch type and continuous flow type.
The process of drying of pulses is needed before milling to ensure safe storage, as pulses received at this stage at the mill usually have high moisture content. After steeping of pulses to loosen the husk, it is essential to dry pulses. During splitting operation too, it is very necessary to dry the pulses to separate cotyledons.
