Two electrons have been removed from each atom. Find the diatance between two such atoms,if they repel each other with a force of 8.8×10^9 N,when place in free space.

If we remove 2 electrons from each atom, then charge on each atom = 2e

(e = 1.6 x 10^-19 C)

therefor force between such two atoms separated by distance 'r'

                    F = kQq/r^2 = 9x10^9 x(2e)x(2e)/r^2

therefore     9x10^9 x(2e)x(2e)/r^2 = 8.8x10^9N (Given)

or                  r^2 = 9x4e^2/8.8

on putting value of e = 1.6x10^-19C and taking square root

r = 8.09x10^-10 m
