Carbon and Silicon have the Tetra valency (meaning they have the valency of 4). Due to this unique Features, they can have the Catenation Process. 

Catenation is the Process by with the carbon (or Si) forms long chain which may be straight or Branched. 

Usually, Carbon have the more tendency for the Catenation Process. Silicon also have but it is quite small then the Carbon. Thus while defining the Catenation process, we used to mention the name of the Carbon only.
