Two elements are X  with atomic number 11 ---- Sodium
Y with atomic number 13--- Aluminium.

1. Which among-st  the two has less metallic character?

      Y has less metallic character because metallic character decreases in a period from left to right.

2. .
Calculate the valency of each element.
Element X --- electronic configuration : 1s22s22p63s1
so valency is one.

Element Y electronic configuration : 1s22s22p63s23p3
Velency is three.

Its true . Because atomic size decreases over period due to increase in nuclear Charge.

Hey akarsh here.,

Element x here is sodium
And element y here is aluminium

1) metallic character decreases as you move from left to right along period because from left element usually donate more electron as compare to right or are more reactive than that towards right side
........so element y will have less metallic character as compare to element x... and also metallic character increases when u move down along group
.

2)valency of element x will be +1 because it can donate one electron
Valency of element y is +3 because it can donate 3 valence electron
And these valency can be determined by the k, l, m n shells which we have studied earlier here capacity of k shell is 2,l shell is 8,m shell is 8 and n shell is 18........and if the last shell of any element is not full those electron are called valence or free electron....

Here to find out valency of element x with atomic no 11........first we will check electronic configuration
Na =2,8,1
So valency is +1 because free electron is 1 in last shell

Simmilarly
In element x with atomic no. 13
Electronic configuration is
Al=2,8,3
So valency is +3

And positive sign is because it can donate electron
.

3) yes this statement is true that element x is bigger than element y because as we have studied that along period size of element dicreases because the force of attraction also increases with the increasing no. Of electron so larger force will decrease the atomic radii

...... Hope this will help u a bit......
Thnxx a lot
