Two elements X&Y have atomic number 12 & 16 respectively.To which period of the modern periodic table do this to elements belong ? What type of bond will be formed between them & why ? Also give the chemical formula of the compound formed .

They will form ionic bond.

They will form MgS.

Mg will lose 2 electrons to obtain nearest noble gas configuration.
