Two elements X and Y belong to
Groups 1 and 2, respectively, and are in the same period of the periodic table. How
do the following properties of X and Y vary? (2)
(a) Their valencies in forming oxides
(b) Molecular formula of their chlorides

Element X will have one valence electron in the outermost shell whereas element Y will have two valence electron in the outermost shell thus their chemical reactivity will differ.
